used to

แปลว่า เคย ปัจจุบันเราไม่นิยมใช้ used to ในรูปแบบของกริยาช่วยแล้ว แต่เราใช้เฉพาะเป็นกริยาแท้พูดถึงสิ่งที่ทำเป็นนิสัยในอดีต ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้หยุดไปแล้ว

เช่น

I used to smoke a lot.

She used to be fat.
She used to tell a lie.

เมื่อเป็นประโยคคำถาม และประโยคปฎิเสธเราจะเอา Verb to do เข้ามาช่วย เมื่อเอา Verb to do จะต้องเปลี่ยน use ให้เป็นกริยาช่องที่ 1 เช่น

I did not use to smoke a lot.

She did not use to be fat.
Did she use to tell a lie?

ข้อควรสังเกตอย่านำ used to ไปใช้ปะปนกับ to be used to ซึ่ง to be used to+noun / ing แปลว่า เคยชิน เช่น

I am used to driving at night.

She is used to the hot weather in Thailand.
He is used to reading this book.
She is used to getting up early.
They are used to going shopping.
