used to

used to 

บ่อยครั้งที่เคยได้เห็นหรือได้ยินประโยคที่ใช้คำว่า used to ซึ่งไม่ได้แปลว่าใช้อย่างที่เราเข้าใจ จริง ๆ แล้ว used to ในที่นี่แปลว่า เคย เคยทำ สิ่งที่ทำเป็นนิสัยในอดีต ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้หยุดไปแล้ว หรือไม่ได้ทำสิ่งนั้นแล้วนั่นเอง

เช่น

I used to smoke a lot.
She used to be fat.
She used to tell a lie.

เมื่อเป็นประโยคคำถาม และประโยคปฎิเสธเราจะเอา Verb to do เข้ามาช่วย เมื่อเอา Verb to do จะต้องเปลี่ยน use ให้เป็นกริยาช่องที่ 1 เช่น

I did not use to smoke a lot.
She did not use to be fat.
Did she use to tell a lie? 

ข้อควรสังเกตอย่านำ used to ไปใช้ปะปนกับ to be used to ซึ่ง to be used to+noun / ing และ get used to เพราะทั้งสองอันนี้แปลว่าเคยชิน และยังทำอยู่เป็นนิสัยค่ะ  เช่น

I am used to driving at night.
She is used to the hot weather in Thailand.
He is used to reading this book.
She is used to getting up early.
They are used to going shopping.
